MUSICAL CHAMELEON'S LATEST REINVENTION

Chuey moves into a new era

Take a peep at Sydney artist Chuey's body of work and you might just decide he's the king of reinvention.

From pop/funk EP Tableaux, to EDM/dubstep EP DIPTYCH, and from composing the soundtrack for a short film through to producing a self-made animated music video, Chuey surprises time and again, with each new project bringing something different to the table.

'I've been around music ever since I was a young kid,' Chuey says, having taken up classical piano at the age of five, and going on to pursue a degree in jazz piano.

'I'm always drawn to the idea of reinventing myself, and exploring whats uncomfortable and different for me,' he says.

'Though now after many many years I'd say I've really found my footing and my purpose. I'm really excited to show you where I'm going to go next.'

The first single from his next project is his latest track Heritage, an alt-R&B song about his late father, reflecting on the way love is expressed through actions rather than words.

‘It’s a regret I have, that I didn't try and learn more about my father when he was still around,' Chuey says.

'It feels I'm going to spend the rest of my life playing catch up to discover more about his life.'

The track also expresses its message in examples of sound.

‘When writing this song, I was primarily focused on sonically exploring the sounds, places and things that reminded me of home rather than directly talking about it,’ Chuey says.

Check out Heritage and follow Chuey to keep up with his latest project as it unfolds.
