CATCHY, POIGNANT AND POLISHED

ALBUM REVIEW: The Colliflowers, Mirage Hotel

Q. What do you get when you combine classic Aussie rock, contemporary indie-pop, and a dash of surf rock?

A. New EP Mirage Hotel from Byron Bay/Northern Rivers band The Colliflowers!

Everything about this release is catchy, from the melodies, to the basslines, to the super-polished sound.

We kick off with the band's most recent single Moment In Time, which manages to be upbeat and contemplative at the same time, before moving straight into Locked Up, a track which continues the reflective and nostalgic feel of the lyrics that will run through the entire album. Waterhead is a case in point, ending with the line ‘the lights were on but now they slowly fade.’

Listening to San Pedro feels like rolling through the desert in a wistful haze, and is followed beautifully by the fresh upbeat vibe of As It Goes.

And after all that nostalgic longing, it's no wonder we need a Holiday, complete with its happy little outro to plonk the cherry on top.

Mirage Hotel is an accomplished collection of catchy indie rock tracks with a tight and poignant thematic link.
