Get ready for the upcoming full-length release from Blood Lotus with a dive into the atmospheric music videos for three singles taken from the album.

Blood Lotus is the musical project of Melbourne-based Hannah Wu, fusing experimental electronic and avant-garde pop with traditional Chinese instruments to push beyond conventional genre parameters.

The three tracks Corpus, Nightfall, and I Assume, are shaped by Blood Lotus' interest in the concept of Asia-futurism, reinterpreting ancient musical histories through contemporary electronic music.

The videos were shot by Joey Knox and directed by David Tse.

 ‘We went to Taiwan and filmed four music videos in a week, all very much inspired and influenced by different subsets of Asian new wave cinema,’ Tse says.

First single Corpus was filmed on the Zhongshan Bridge, working almost solely with natural light.

Nightfall, a collaboration with Heart Armour, was written in a single session and depicts the quiet tension that exists in the space between friendship and romance. The video was shot in love hotels, dress arcades and down eerie hallways.

Third single I Assume is a collaboration with Kuya Neil and Voidhood. It's dark, atmospheric, and explores the reconstruction of the self after grief. 

The forthcoming album Middle Of The Night traces the aftermath of a relationship ending and the process of rebuilding identity.

‘I always think about the etymology of the word, emotion; how e-motions are a form of (e)nergy in motion,’ Blood Lotus says.

'The word 'emotion' is derived from the Latin word emovere, which means “to move, move out, and move through”'.

Middle of the Night drops August 4.
