A must-listen for Aussie hip-hop fans

ALBUM REVIEW: Malcolm Madonna, Petty Boy

Western Sydney artist Malcolm Madonna brings us an album to rival anything sitting in the international charts. Petty Boy is a must-listen for any fan of modern hip-hop, R&B and rap.

It's an album in which the artist is deliberately petty towards his ex, beginning with the appropriately-titled Petty, and there is a pervasive telephone theme, with ringtones and voice messages strategically sprinkled throughout the whole album.

On Come Thru and several other tracks, we're treated to brilliant guest vocals from artists like Jettyvibes, Mary Lova and ZINOLEAH.

Malcolm Madonna is great at mixing it up so things don't get stale; after the lofi beats of Tokyo we get the up-tempo groove of Fine With It; on the track Smoke Freestyle, we start off bass-heavy before a cool change-up at the halfway mark.

On the final track Happy 4 Me, the artist finally admits how petty he's been and sincerely wishes his ex well.

Our fave tracks include Petty, R&B track Come Thru, as well as the smooth seductive sound of Bandz.

Petty Boy is a top quality album and a must-listen for any Aussie hip-hop fans.
