MUSIC VIDEO OF THE WEEK: Sweetie, Dogtooth
Sydney trio Sweetie explore the liminal space of an unfinished housing estate in the video for their track Dogtooth, which is perhaps surprisingly a love song.
‘Dogtooth is a song that treats falling in love like a minor supernatural event,’ vocalist Lily Keenan says.
‘What does it mean to love someone like a dog? Devotion, obsession maybe, or maybe just becoming something that can love without embarrassment,' she says.
‘It’s about loving everything, the imperfections, the details, right down to their canines.'
It's the title track from Sweetie's debut album released last month, a body of work that draws on gothic Australian narratives, mythic archetypes and the slow rot of late capitalism to craft a visceral portrait of what it means to be a woman in contemporary Australia.
