AUSSIES TEAM UP FOR HAUNTING DUET

Shared origin story leads to collaboration

Geelong Grammar student Lana Karlay and brother duo Mason & Julez have banded together on Ghost of You, an intimate duet about the strange afterlife of a relationship.

‘We wrote and recorded this in LA, about the way someone can stay with you long after they’re gone, and how moving on isn’t as easy as you’d wish,’ Karlay says.

‘The song looks at that from both sides, which I think makes it so interesting. Both sides are trying to let go, but still thinking  about each other.’

The track was written during one of her stints in California, where Mason & Julez permanently reside. Like Karlay, the brothers grew up in Victoria with a passion for music and a fascination with the industry in the US. They convinced their parents to move to LA to in order to pursue their dreams.

It’s this shared mindset that brought the artists together, resulting in Ghost of You.

‘It’s the weird in between where the relationship is over, but you’re still haunted by them,’ Karlay says.

‘We’ve put so much into bringing this song to life, and it’s been so special getting to create something together that we’re all so proud of.’
