Melbourne melodic rap artist hubo explores the weight of decisions and their consequences in the prison-themed video for Speedtalk.

‘Speedtalk at its core is a story about regret, the desire for redemption, and the lengths someone will go to in order to make amends with the person they love,’ hubo says.

He says the project came together through a series of fortunate coincidences.

'I met director Nick Rijneveld at a mutual friend's 30th birthday in Brisbane, and we later discovered we were actually neighbours,' he says.

‘Nick was looking to make his directing debut, while I was searching for someone to bring my first official music video to life. It felt like the perfect creative partnership.’

The bulk of the video was filmed at the historic Pentridge Gaol, using the prison theme as a metaphor for guilt, regret and emotional imprisonment.

The final scene was shot in Mount Dandenong as a contrast to the confines of prison, to symbolise hope and reflection.
