MUSIC VIDEO OF THE WEEK: KOEI, THE LAST TIME
Independent Sydney artist KOEI pulls off a beautiful nostalgic track and video, combining warm guitar and synths with a cleverly crafted and emotive clip.
The track recounts the final moments of a lengthy and tumultuous relationship, with the video a largely DIY affair, thanks to KOEI's skills in animation, colour grading and video editing.
‘The music video was directed, storyboarded and shot entirely independently by just myself and my best friend,’ KOEI says. ‘I then colour-graded and edited the entire video myself.’
The video splices together the best days and the worst days of a couple's relationship.
‘Like the song itself, the music video is meant to feel uncertain and tense, as the protagonist seems unsure of whether he should give chase and try to mend things,’ KOEI says.
'When he finally finds the courage to do so, he's too late.'
The resulting video is full of sadness and beauty.
