Five of our faves!
Discordant guitars, experimental effects, haunting soundscapes… the Australian post-punk scene is thriving right now, and here are five bands we've handpicked to highlight this elusive genre!
Kitty of the Valley

A Sydney-based band with a genre-merging sound inspired by both the post-punk movement and the early-2000s revival. They describe their sound as sitting ‘somewhere between chaos and euphoria - crafted to make people dance, cry, sweat, and let loose.’

88 Tokamak

Brisbane band 88 Tokamak craft a shoegaze/post-punk fusion. Be sure to check out their most recent album, Telescopes Out At The Rollerdisco, which they describe as ‘a conceptual queer adult coming-of-age story full of twiddly bits, sound effects, impressionist poetry and guitars, guitars, guitars.’
Chimers

Formed in Wollongong during covid lockdowns, Chimers combines noise pop, post-punk and garage rock. Blending discordant guitar and off-beat drums, the duo is currently touring Australia with USA band FACS.
Sega Jade

Another band from Wollongong, Sega Jade play gritty post-punk with urgency and intensity. Their 2025 album Mule combines ethereal soundscapes with experimental guitars and bursts of melodic brilliance.
waist

Split between Brisbane and Melbourne, this darkwave post-punk duo burst onto the scene last year with two amazing tracks in mtv and bravado. We can't wait to see what they have in store for us this year!
