RIDE THE NEW WAVE

Three bands you need to know

Following on from our five fave post-punk bands story earlier this year, we delve into the genre's poppier sister to bring you three Aussie new wave bands you should know about.

SCREENSAVER

This Melbourne-based band ‘balance frenetic energy with unsettling tonalities to create rhythmic gloom that rides the new wave to the synth-punk.’ Their most recent track Division is a synth-driven lament on the modern world's geopolitical state.

STREET LEGAL

Adelaide five-piece Street Legal blend brooding synth-pop, restless new wave and post-punk energy into songs that explore life in an increasingly anxious and fractured world. Their latest track The Barassi Line also explores division, named after the cultural divide separating Australia's AFL and rugby scenes.
