Music to sit on the beach and contemplate life by

ALBUM REVIEW: Quite Loud, Quite Loud

Quite Loud is the self-titled second EP from Quite Loud, the solo project of Jack Irwin-Cordner, who grew up on the South Coast of NSW and now resides in the South West of WA. It's not surprising, then, that his music is heavily inspired by surf rock.

Track one, Dapper Man, is a case in point, opening with a happy, sunny sound, an upbeat tempo, and beachside vibes.

But don't be fooled - from track two Cold In Them Summer Days and beyond, the lyrics turn introspective and the tempo is chilled, with Stressed a stand out track.

The sound remains consistent, however; Who I Want To Be, despite being quite melancholy, still includes a jangly guitar rhythm.

Cold Ice Is Better Than Warm is more carefree; it's giving ‘relaxing on the beach’,  with a beautiful tempo change at the two minute mark.

Closing track I'm Older Now features some quite dark lyrics about mistakes made, but, like the rest of the album, doesn't come across as depressing.

Quite Loud has a gift for turning sombre subject matter into chilled listening without taking anything away from the gravity of the lyrics. Quite Loud is music to sit on the beach and contemplate life by.
